An oldie from the files. As I am at the Armadillo Ranch for a few days doing maintenance on the bunk house and the well before the clan gathers for Thanksgiving. The headquarters building at the Imperial Sugar refinery also housed the post office and a bank at the front. An old photo from the early 50s.
Good morning from mostly sunny and mild Northeast Ohio! I only managed to complete one car this week, a Tangent Bethlehem 52'6" gon. Painted with a mixture of Floquil Jade and Dark Green paint and lettered with Highball Graphics decals. The Lehigh Valley acquired 100 of these gons in 1970 for hauling ingot molds between Bethlehem Steel plants along with the D&H Railroad. I installed a pair of State Tool & Die ingot molds in the car resting on 4x4 wood stringers which run thee length of the car. A pair of Atlas C-420's running on the Strongsville Club layout. Have a great weekend! Rick Jesionowski
Before Image of 'White Tower / Coffee Tower' Edit: Trouble uploading After Pic of 'White Tower / Coffee Tower' Orange 'Accurail' Insulated Boxcar. If you look close you can see the the 'shell' is off a little as the step-daughter got frustrated after 2 hours with the rest of the kit. She is now ready for moor. I built one also but never got the couplers on.
Happy Veterans Day and Thanks for your service ! I spent 33 years with Chevron, worked in El Paso, Albuquerque, Grand Prairie, back to Albuq., and finally back to ELP. My last 10 years I was a field rep for the Transportation Dpt. out of San Francisco and was assigned to the El Paso refinery. I was responsible for all modes of transportation for West Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. My favorite job during last 10 years was working with this : This car was a twin to an AMOCO Safety Train and both were built by RESCAR in Longview, Texas. They were 2 compartment cars with wall removed and shelving added to sidewalls. Not sure when this shot was made but it was at the Richmond CA. refinery. Here she is in Aurora, ILL in 1999. The air conditioner removed and an entry door placed in the B end, prior to this entry to the classroom was by descending through one of the domeways, not safe : And here is a very feeble attempt to make an N scale version for my Ewing refinery : I am trying to find a large diameter car to make another one as this one was destroyed. Rightfully so, I guess. Be well !
I love these old pics. Managed to complete only one, but it's very well done. I know. Great poetry. Please hold your applause. Muddy creek might have fish. Is that a GE 70 tonner? Yeah. Kit frustration can happen. Unique safety cars.
Thanks for Your Service to all of the Veterans on the forum. With a rainy start to this weekend, I decided to put together some of my modules and run some trains in the garage.
This here engineer survived the Civil War to move west and roll along for the NP&BH. Happy Veteran's Day!!
Happy Veteran's to my fellow Vets. I been working for a few weeks on another QA&P GP7. This is the one Q GP7 steam generator equipped the 564. I used some DW parts modified with Styrene to extend the boiler's exhaust stack, along with mounting some DW rerailers on each side, then I noticed what looked to be smoke lifter on the top of the stack. Got that added also added extra steam lines on the ends aside the brake pipe hoses. Also shown is the QA&P 546. Thanks for stopping by.
Just finished assembling one of the kits I bought at the Laval hobby show back on November 4th, B&O 602207, an Accurail ACF three-bay airslide covered hopper. Here's the official portrait: Substituted Kadees for the included couplers and used a couple of 2-56 screws to attach the trucks. Very easy to assembnle and didn't even need any extra weighting.
My own 2-week bout of Covid finally ended earlier this week. I used the semi-functional part of that unexpected time off to finish painting SP 4061. And now that it cleared up and I can leave the apartment again I have the twin Geeps tuned up, speed matched, and heading up a nice long freight train on the club layout.
I'm a slacker. But I did go to an estate sale... I picked up these new in box MoPac locomotives. A GP38-2 and a GP50. I painted the GP50 chassis and side frames with Testors Blue Angel Blue... That a paint that's no longer in production. I have enough to do the GP38-2 and the details...
