I'm going to be building a small dock for my module, but I want it to have a slightly unkempt look. In particular, I was hoping to nail the look of old, sea-weathered wood (that 'silver' appearance that old wood gets after about 20 or 30 years). Does anyone know a good way to get wood structures to look like that?

    As an example:

You can get some of it with the old india ink and denatured alcohol treatment (denatured alcohol is next to the acetone and other solvents in your local hardware store, walmart, or art supply store). Perhaps hitting the wood with that, then applying gray paint (I'd rub it instead of brush/spray it), using a scratch eraser, I'd knock some of that off, and then wash it again.

In my experience (and that I've read of others), staining needs to be performed before starting construction...or else the glue prevents the stain from being absorbed.
