Since the lettering on the new Athearn cars is so opaque a thought came to me....

Have any of the members out there used an air-eraser to fade lettering or paint in the process of weathering?

Which also raises the question as to if any company makes decals for the SP 'red' lettered units (those where the white wore off showing the primer underneath)?

I also would love to see SP red lettering decals. I put in a suggestion to Microscale awhile back for this - for what that's worth. . .

Red lettering? What are you guys talking about?

I have made orange lettering before by using white and then coloring over the decals with overhead projector marking pens. The translucent orange did not show up over the darker undercoat. You have to be careful with your clear overspray so that it does not "wash" the marker to the side.

    That's the color + or - I'm speaking of.

Red lettering here is caused by the white color wearing off of the scotch-lite lettering. This decal type is made by Micro Scale. See decal sheet 60-612.

Oh that red. I forgot to put smiles in that post to indicate my tong was firmly implanted in my cheek. :D The orange I was doing was for some narrow gauge Rio Grande coaches I was painting.
