Heard on the new tonite and this is a good one the UPRR waterloo, Iowa yard lost a locomotive. No not in a wreck, damage or retired. I mean they lost it... When they came in to work Friday morning their engine was gone. That's what I thought. The police were called because they thought the engine was stolen during the nite. A few hours later they found the engine just outside of town. Seems one of the engineer's parked the enginee their and forgot to leave note were they left the engine. opppps..

LOL, Oops! I saw a train order in a hobby shop in Oakland CA to that effect once. Basically it said "All crews be on the lookout for these two locos. We lost them somewhere and don't know where they are". It happens.

I'll have to tease my brother-in-law and sister-in-law about someone "stealing" an engine in Iowa! They live in Humboldt.

"I thought stuff like that happened in New York!"

Hey, I've been wondering if the CC&P is still running out of Fort Dodge?

A few days ago, a KCS engine was parked in their yard for over-night. The next morning another KCS ran into it head-on just at the edge of town, derailing the empty engine, but little damage since it was a low speed collision.

Several years ago a UP engine was (probably) tampered with (by some teenagers that had been hanging around) one night while it was sitting in the yard in the town of Weatherford, Tex some 26 miles from the Ft.Worth yards.

This empty engine (somehow) released its brakes, strangely "fell" into run '5' and went east down grade from Weatherford with no lights gaining speed all the way. It hit a long west bound just pulling out onto the main line from the Ft. Worth yards. It killed the freight crew and caught all the engines on fire and derailed a number of cars. The runnaway's black box marked its speed at 56mph at time of impact, the freight had attained 18, making a combined impact of 75mph!
