    Hi everyone,

Looking for some help. I am at the point in my layout that i want to start adding water. I am creating a long stream with multiple drops and waterfall. I want to use rocks and gravel to line the stream. Creat rapids and calm areas. Looking for some help on techniques and material to use. Can any help me out?

If you have any pics or videos that would be great.

    Thanks
    Dave

i used woodland scenics water pellets for the lake on my layout. using a hot air gun made it easy to melt them.

of course there are many other ways of creating water. whatever you choose i strongly suggest NOT to try it directly on your layout. don't ask how i know. create a small scene to practice.

Thanks, I have seen those, but i wasnt sure if they come clear when melted. They start off as clear yellow pills right? What do you do...glue down the rocks and gravel and lay these over the top and melt it. Do you have a pic of how it looks when done.

I would NOT recommend the pellets. water tends to crack and turn yellow with time. Their other water product however works well. ( comes in a bottle, looks like white liquid, and is expensive :startled: ) Also the two part resin types will work well, but some of them do leave an odor while cureing :uhoh: ....Mike

The pellets are horrible. Use Woodland Scenics Pourable Realistic Water or a 2 part epoxy.

You could also go to a Michaels or a Ben Franklin craft store and pick up some Envirotex or Envirotex Lite. What the difference is between the 2 I have no clue but they work and it wont melt styrofoam either!

For the waterfall, there are several methods that one could use. I have seen people use scotch tape, or clear packaging tape as the basis of the waterfall then use WS realistic water or Envirotex over the tape. One could also add some cotton balls all fluffed out at the bottom to represent the spray if the waterfall was high enough.

I like WS Realistic Water too. But whatever you decide on, do not paint it blue! Trust me, you'll never hear the end of it ;-)
