In February 2016, Norfolk Southern mothballed huge portions of their "West Virginia Secondary" that runs from Charleston, WV, to Columbus, Ohio. Declining coal traffic was their reason.

However, in April, talks between WATCO and NS started, and in early August they started running coal trains with NS power. The railroad has a handful of rebuilt GP35s and SD45s, and they lease 13 SD60s from NS.

Now is the interesting part. For the first time so far, three former Southern Pacific SD45s led a manifest north to Columbus. Here's a little video I took during my chase!
