16 miles of track, in and around Hearne, Texas was shut down last week due to over 17 inches of rain. Hearn is a major junction of the Union Pacific in Texas with seven different lines meeting there. The old SP came down from the Dallas area and split with one line going to Houston and the other to San Antonio. The MoPac line from Arkansas to Austin and San Antonio crossed their line running from Fort Worth to Houston. Needless to say things were a mess till they repared all the track.

Didn't the old T&P, or was it the T&NO(?), get into Hearne? Valley Junction was the location name?

Send some of that rain up here. We need it badly!

Well, the T&NO was the local SP railroad that ran things in Texas until the early 1960's. The SP line in Hearne started out as the Houston & Texas Central. The MoPac lines were the International & Great Northern and the St. Louis, Brownsville & Mexico that crossed right outside of Hearne at Valley Junction. The T&P was not one of the lines through Hearne.
