Though Santa Fe has been physically gone for sometime, its nice to see former Santa Fe units still sporting their original warbonnet paint scheme, even with the patched BNSF logo. I trust that still die hard Santa Fe fans, like myself, will enjoy the following warbonnet memories. 1) A BNSF Tacoma, WA to Denver, CO intermodal, (TACDEN), is led by an EMD SD75M, in its original Santa Fe warbonnet colors, as it passes by the BNSF Depot in Longmont, CO. 2) A former Santa Fe EMD GP60M, now BNSF 104, is seen leading the Longmont Shuttle north at Highland, CO. 3) Another former Santa Fe unit, a GE B40-8W, 554, that has seen its share of service, and desperately in need of some fresh paint, is seen parked on a siding at Longmont, CO. I know I have posted this shot here just recently, but couldn't resist, since it's the same unit, 554, as your third shot. This one taken at Railfair '91 in Sacramento when the unit was brand new.
I don't think that qualifies as opinion. Nor does the fault with their air conditioners. Is it only red and blue paint that suffered that way? Maybe not - I seem to recall shots of UP C40-8s with paint that peeled somewhat similarly, though not as badly.
There certainly have been plenty of troubles with paints. Not just railroads. Sometimes it's a bad batch. Sometimes it's a bad idea. It's awful to see the SF units turning toward a pink. Boxcab E50
Considering we were closing on each other at 120MPH plus, this shot turned out halfway decent. Razzenfrazzen signal shack! Just a few miles from Chinook, MT was this GP60M-led intermodal:
Here's the 617 and 607, then unpatched: I try to grab every Warbonnet I see, shoot them when you can!
Some of these are a few years old, but so what rounding the loop at Walong Grab shot at Fullerton just as I stepped out of my car Vancouver Wa.
They're still running today The warbonnets are still running today. Literally, today - just a few hours ago I took these shots
I'd like to see this too. Actually, aren't they simply patching on a "BNSF" and leaving the old road number in place? I haven't seen a pure warbonnet for about 3 years now.
