Funny how they're sold out, yet a Walther's rep was quoted as saying they didn't get the pre-orders they were expecting, so they were doing a limited run. Is Bachmann the only one making quality steam (Spectrum's) that produces a large enough quantity where people can wait for the reviews before buying one? Oh well, I feel silly. My wife walked in and was talking to me when I watched the video the first time, so I missed the text talking about the estimated number of cars it could pull. Didn't see it til I saw it again later. my OOPS! Last comment: Talked to a dealer in NY. He said he'd been running one of the DCC / Sound equipped locos continuously for several hours with no problems whatsoever. Have a N&W with sound heading my way now.
Everyone has at least one black Magic-Marker in their train toolbox.:tb-wink: I know...I have 3...LOL .
Re the video: Thanks and WOW! Looks like mines on the way, but now I wish I'd ordered two or three. Looks like being one of the best steamers yet and Walthers decide to limit production!:tb-mad: I hope the HO guys pulling the strings at Walthers come to their senses and decide to do more, or even, dare we dream such things, redo the Berkshire as well. They could step into the gap where PCM could be if they hadn't abandoned the M1.
Maybe I missed it but I don't see anything on his site to say he has any in stock, in fact it still says "due fall '07", he's no use to me anyway as he's about the only online retailer left who refuses to ship foreign orders. For finding items sold out elsewhere I usually go to M.B.woo woo woo, they always seem to have more stock and a seemingly accurate real time inventory so you know they actually have the item.
Walthers N Scale 2-8-8-2's still in stock Hi Guys, We still have at least one of each road name and number of the new run of the Walthers N Scale 2-8-8-2 in stock - both DC and Sound DCC. This is a great running loco. We have been runing it on our demo layout for several days now pulling 20 MT and Atlas cars up and over our hills. Much better than the initial run of this loco.
Don't have any use for the Y3 engines but would love to get my hands on a few of the N&W tender... they'd be perfect behind my road's Mountains.
I tried to buy one from Life-Like when it was Life-Like. No dice, said all their parts were for warranty repairs. Ben
Yep, I got one from Trainguy's web store and sent a couple of people to his site yesterday. Feel like it's already Christmas waiting for it to get here.
I talked to our Walthers rep today and found that they were completly surprised by the sellout. Because of the great response to the loco, another run will be announced soon but only selected road names with new numbers. I'm guessing Virginian will not be in the new release because as of this afternoon, Walthers still had 20-30 of each of the Virginian DCC loco's available. All others were sold out. Finally some good news from Walthers. They are responding to a demand. BTW - I was told that we won't see the next batch of loco's available till mid to late summer 2009. The decoders are what held up the last batch and it will take that long to get in the cue to make more decoders.
Good , do the UP again , they had 5 locos . Then maybe the C&O H-7 2-8-8-2 that the UP bought 30 copies of and used during the same 1945-1947 period . And if the drive is designed as well and holds up Walthers will get more advanced orders that the untested Y3 did . An ear to the rail never hurts , unless you wait too long .http://hosteamcentral.com/images/NJCB-H7-2882-UP-lside1.jpg
A couple of Virginian models on eBay already. The listings say shipping will occur in 5 to 7 days indicating seller may not even have them yet. I do hate it when a new models pop up on eBay before dealers have finished shipping theirs, mine included. Ben
Thanks Tony for the report. I'm glad to see Walthers is responding to demand and coming with another run. I'll be in for another SF version. Even though i have both the Challenger and big boy the Y3's sound system sounds superior as noted by Jerry. Of course Chuck at FRT decided to go to trainfest when all my great stuff is coming in. So i won't see my BL passenger cars or the Y3 till he gets back next week. Have fun Chuck, wish i was there. Dave
I saw one run today at my local LHS. I like the sound better in this loco than on the 2 steamers that Atheans has release. They looks real nice to and the price is great for a steam engine with sound. The only thing I did not like was the big white connector to the tender. You steam guys will be happy with it. If they do a C&O H7 I will get one.
In the video are you running DCC? What functions are in DC? How are they controlled by the powerpack in DC?
DC I believe. Functions controlled by "magic wand," supplied I assume. Can also be controlled using MRC black box. And QSI makes a controller, a separate purchase. Ben
Here's the controller and info from TOPHOBBY.COM http://www.tophobbytrains.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3085
