This is a cross post from the wabash yahoo list. "Hi all. By now some of you, at least, should have received the registration information for the fall 2006 meeting of the Wabash Railraod Historical Society, which is being held at Sauder Historic Village in Archbold, OH. My wife and I will be your hosts for the weekend. One of the activities we have planned is the opporturnity to particiapte in one of two operating sessions on the Wabash Operations Roadshow, which is based in Saline, Mich. The Wabash Road show is a large HO layout that models the Wabash Railroad from East La Fayette, IN to Peru, IN. Operations are done using a time-table from 1964. You don't have to have any experience in model railroading, or operations, to participate. There is no additional fee for this activity. Two sessions are planned at this time. The first session will be on Friday evening and the second session will be late Sunday morning into Sunday after noon. Space is limited to 12 participants per session, so preregistration is a must. Saline is located in Southen Michigan about 80 mile from Sauder Village. My plan is to car pool up to Saline from the Village on Friday, leaving the Village around 5:30 PM. and returning to the Village by late Friday evening. The operating session would run from 7 PM till around 10 PM. (A full session usually runs from 4 - 5 hours, so this is being shortened to accomodate us.) Sunday's session would start at 11 AM and has the potential of being a full session, if people wish to stay that long. Saline is close to I-94. Participants on Friday could come to Saline first and then follow us back to the Village if they were so inclined. Likewise, participants could drive up to Saline on Sunday and leave for home directly from there of they desired. A car pool will be available for those wishing to return to the Village and leave from there later in the day, or wait until Monday to leave. If you would like to participate in either of these sessions, or have questions about them, please contact me either by e-mail, or by phone. My e-mail is fred@... My phone is 734.856.6489 My wife and I look forward to seeing you in October. ....Fred _______________ Fred E. Cross Post from Wabash Historical Society site: 2006 Annual Meeting The WRHS Annual Meeting for 2006 will be held on October 6-8 at the Sauder Historic Village, Archbold, OH. This year's scheduled events are to include operating sessions on the Operations Roadshow layout in Saline, MI, modular layouts set up and running at Sauder Village, telegraphy demonstrations, an open tour of the restored Wabash depot at the Village, an exhibit on railroads of NW Ohio in the museum, clinics, guided driving tour of various Wabash sites in the area, and of course, the banquet and keynote speaker.
While not a member of the Wabash Hist. Soc., I am attending the Friday night session with a friend, by invitation of Fred Lux.
There used to be a couple of Wabash fans, who'd post here once in a while. Darn! Maybe someone will have a photo or two from this gathering? Boxcab E50
First time I have ever operated timetable/train orders. Interesting session. Lasted about 2 1/2 hours. The hosts gave a detailed introduction, and it was fun just watching everyone's eyes glaze over. Once we started running, it wasn't that bad. A friend that came with me, who didn't think he would enjoy it, has signed up to come back to the group's regular operating sessions. A couple guys came from Arizona for the convention. I'm not part of the group, so I can't comment on the rest of the convention.
