Anyone have some current news about this effort? Their web site is stale! Hasn't been updated since 2003. Which often isn't good news. Boxcab E50
I was thinking of trying an e-mail inquiry. But so much of the time, there seems to be no reply from such links. There was such initial enthusiasm, you'd want to believe their web site would be updated with more good news. I worry that the project has been somehow stymied. Boxcab E50
There has been progress. A contractor finished building the big fill across the Overman Pit towards the end of the summer, and a track gang laid some track...I don't remember how much they have down, but it is some. The reconstruction group purchased five ex-SP "Harriman Subs" from the Golden Gate Railroad Museum at their eviction-driven fire sale...Feather River Rail Society moved the cars north as part of their hospital train, they may be stored in Portola until the new V&T is ready for them. Back in January the commission came to terms on a 3+ acre parcel on the eastern fringe of Carson City considered to be essential to some phase of the project. From what I can gather and remember the only serious obstacle remaining on the line down to Gold Hill is a tunnel. There is a good deal going on, but at the same time there have been some railfan rumors and reports that the project is not moving along nearly at the rate it should be. I do not know enough to say if they are valid or not. Not too long ago there was a story in a Reno paper about one of the principles in the commission finding out that it would be illegal for him to operate a private railcar service on the reconstructed V&T once the project is finished.
