Since this topic has been touched upon in a couple of other forums here, I am now wondering- Have any of the commercial sellers ever released video of the NP during it's diesel days? There's GN, Milw, and so forth out there. But NP?

I know that the NPRHA has a couple of tapes witha lot of steam action. And there are brief segments combined with other subjects on a couple of tapes. Is there one dedicated strictly to the NP? If not, why  not????

I've got a few videos that show NP stuff. I believe they are mostly NP passenger trains from the 1960's. I would like to have some with freight action form the 60's, along with some more Milw stuff from the coastal division in the early 70's. I can't figure it out either. Someone has to have something somewhere.

    Bill-

After thinking about this all night, I did recall that Sunday River had a silent one about the NCL. Don't believe it was very lengthy. But what ever happened to that company?

Would love some 1960's color and sound, (if not dubbed, even better!), freight action! Oh do I miss those days!

    Hi Boxcab:

The video I have is from Green Frog Productions. It's call Northwest Kolidescope I believe. I think my video on the Milwaukee Road West from Charles Smiley also has some brief shots of the NCL in Montana. I"m surprised in the lack of info on either railroad video wise, and in the Milwaukee's case, the Pacific extension. My dad was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington in the mid 70's , and he was an avid railfan. Unfortunately I remember very little about the area specifically. I do have a few pics of a Little Joe in the scrap yard in Chehalis, and of a U-36C going through Chehalis.

    Bill-

Actually there is a fair amount of Milw Lines West video footage out there. Although the focus seems to be the Rocky Mountain Division. The best by far is the Pentrex issue. Only about three really big narration errors.

Unfortunately, Pacific NW Kaleidoscope is one of the worst insofar as narration. Or lack thereof. The Milw footage was taken by my friend Maynard Laing. It's from a reel he put together for public showing, at my request, during 1987. There was a Milw narration supplied to GF, (at the request of GF), by two very, very knowledgeable NW people. Who are still angry. GF for reasons unknown, used none of it. Instead, they had a complete fiction. Incorrect locations, omissions, fiction of history, etc. Many people still wonder what ever got into their minds to put out such a tape. They did recall the "original" issue for correction. But the re-issue is virtually no better. [IMG]

Maynard had extensive NP footage. As well as Rayonier, GN, UP, etc., etc., etc., etc. Wonder where it went? I heard a rumor once that a company was going to release a NP tape using Maynard's films. But did they?

O-M-G!!!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Bill!!!! You just jogged my memory!!! I remembered who it was- Greg Scholl Video Productions!!!! In the Vintage category. There is an NP steam video. And also Rayonier. Maynard's films!!!!!!!!

WOWWIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I'm excited!!!! They are silent. But dubbed with the audio of Elwin Purington. El was Maynard's sidekick during many of Maynard's outings. So the sound dubbed is the actual stuff for the same engine at the same time!!! Memories flooding back!!!

I was laid up very ill about ten years ago. And El gave me an NP audio cassette to listen to. And also a video of the CC&C engine he'd chased.

Now to check and see if any of Maynard's NP diesel footage is around!

    Happy days!!!

    :D :D :D !!!!!

    Hi Boxcab:

Glad to be able to help. Let me know if that NP footage is still around if you would, I'd love to be able to drool over actual NP diesels in moving pictures. :D

I have 4 NP video's and all are steam, with hard to understand narration. I would buy any NP video's I could find too, as well as all the books.

I just heard back from Greg Scholl. There'd been a problem with his e-mails.

Anyhow, the only footage from Maynard that he has is the one NP steam. I plan on owning a copy.

Surely someone has other color and sound footage of NP diesels out there. Where is it hiding?
