The color on the trees here in Atlanta was brilliant this past week, so I decided to take a personal day at work and spent all day Friday November 7 on the Norfolk Southern Piedmont Division in the north Georgia mountains. While NS officially calls this the Charlotte South District, it is more commonly known as the Atlanta-Washington Mainline, harkening back to the line's origin with the Southern Railway. For those not familiar with this area, this line connects Atlanta with Greenville, SC, then beyond to Charlotte, NC; Greensboro, NC; Lynchburg, VA; Charlottesville, VA; and finally Washington, DC. The day was brilliant with plenty of sunshine lighting up the brilliant yellows, oranges and reds in the trees, although by mid afternoon the clouds came in and the evening saw some light rain (the last video was shot using my white balance card to shield the camera from the light but steady rain ).
