Probably the best graphic presentation I've ever seen, about the zenith of steam loco engineering. I can't imagine how long it took to create this in CAD, or how many moving parts one of these engines had. This came to me via NMRA news.
Neither can I. If I would of started on it 2 years ago I doubt that I'd have it done 5 years from now. Easy to look at these presentations and not realize that putting them together isn't far off from designing the whole thing from scratch. Sumner
It's pretty amazing how steam engine technology advanced without the aid of (inorganic) computers.* But then again, when you look at the duration of the steam era of railroading, it took quite a while to reach its zenith. Advancements including superheating, feedwater pre-heating, etc. all improved efficiency and/or performance. *"Computer" was an occupation, not a device, in the age of steam railroading.
I was a long haul truck driver for 25 years. Give me good diesel locomotive any day ! I enjoyed the diesel locomotive workings video...thanxs
