Ah! That takes me back to my visit to Toronto way back in 1985 I was pleased to see several Budd RDC's.
The F unit is #6300, former Via 6524/CN 6524. I believe it is still based in Vancouver, and the last time I saw it (2 years ago) it was being used as a yard switcher for the Via "Canadian".
I hope it is still in Vancouver. When it's days are through, there is a very good RR preservation/historical group in that area. Maybe a good idea for it's future home? Boxcab E50
I'm modeling the Vancouver area, so this is a good place to find out which engine to use for my VIA "Canadian". I'm thinking of using a GPA-30 F40PH-2 but tell me if I'm wrong.
Skipper, I have access to some consists for the Canadian at Toronto. In November of 2003, I checked 18 consists and they all had two GPA-30/F40PH-2 units. In August I checked nine consists and seven consists had three F40's and 2 consists had two F40's. Hope this helps.
Skipper, The Canadian runs with at least two F40s, in the summer three and they are mostly in the high 30s and 40s number wise.
Milne, Keep an eye out for P42 902. It has an extra green stripe just above the bottom yellow stripe. It runs from the cab door all the way around the unit.
