    Hello,
I got a used Digitrax Zephyr for X-mass and it was working fine. Suddenly out of blue sky it died on me. I smell a burning inside. I am very sad, this was the best thing I got so far for my train set. Did this happened to you and can this be repaired?

If it's that new, surely it's under warranty? Have you contacted the shop where it was purchased?

I'd be interested to hear what was happening at the time, how long it had been working for, and what you were doing to cause the fluff of the unit.

Not a new purchase. Was this an e-bay deal?

Oops. I missed the "used" part. Maybe still able to get serviced. But at what cost?

Considering the PR benefit, it would be worth their while to fix it free of charge. If they do fix it gratis, be sure to give them some good publicity.

they can't charge more than the unit is worth. It could be any number of things wrong. Maybe it is only the wall power unit that fried for instance.

Often with electronics its cheaper for the manufacturer to simply replace the unit on a flat fee. Just cheaper in labor to get out a new one. Let us know how it goes.

I talked them over the phone, and they told me it will take up to 2 weeks to be fixed and they would charge $35.00. I doubt that and I think it might be higher than that. There is nothing for $35.00 these days.

    moshken:

Digitrax will repair it for you. Since it's a used unit, their $35 charge is reasonable.

I gotta wonder, is that 35 dollars just to open it up?
Have they recieved it yet? I would want to be sure, but unless it is more than a new unit, it is worth it. I have a Zephyr that I just love and I hope I never have to go through this myself.

I'd be wrapped to have it fixed for $35. Who cares what they do to it!

Although I still would like to know what happened, how when etc.. when you were using it and it went poo.

I'd also ask them what they fixed..

Lesson Learned for me the hard way on E-Bay-
If you do not have the ability to fix something, make sure it is New In Box. Not "tested on a test track" by the seller. This may mean anything from "tested on a test track" to a piece of garbage that someone is trying to unload.

I have no ability to open and fix a steam engine. I purchased three on e-bay, that were NOT new. They are currently awaiting an epiphany to come to me for motors, gears, wiring, rods and pins so they can be used instead of just looked at.

I am quite sure there are reputable sellers out there. I have not found them.

You know sometimes when you send stuff back for repair, you actually get a new one in return! (That is what happened to my Atlas loco) :D
