My wife gave me a new camera for christmas. After the usual christmas photos it was time to get down to business. So I have been shooting. Happy New Year Mike
The photo's all look great. I like the first two the best. Have fun with your new camera. What camera are you using for these photo's? Stay cool and run steam...
Thanks- I took the pictures with a canon A520 PowerShot (Christmas Present) on my home layout. Here is one more of the small yard.
Gee Mike, I can't tell which ones are models and which are the real thing! Your "small" yard is bigger than my whole layout. I know what it is, its that new fangled camera thingy you been fussin' with. It makes things look bigger than the real thing! I really do like your weathered scenery! Excellent job, looks great! Very neat job on the hand railings on the Burlington engines! Also a nice touch with the little rabbit hiding over on the mountain side behind the worker in the junk yard! I'm not a detail hound, I just happened to spot him. Cute detail!
Once again, great shots. One of the things I really like about your layout is that it is basically two ovals and some spurs, but the way you put it all together makes it look like so much more. I think alot of us could take some good lessons from you when it comes to the less is more category. Have you considered using photoshop to take a photo of a real sky and then mask out the sky in your model photo?
To answer geek. My layout is one main line, 2 loops. With upper and lower levels. The main line climbs at 1.25 to 1.5 elev to get to the upper or down to the lower level. There are 2 main switches that can isolate upper and lower levels. I use the lower loop thru the yard and the upper bypass as a holding or passing track. Running 2 trains same direction is easy. Using DCC I can run 2 train different directions but I have to watch closely. Thanks for the compiment geek. I believe in simplicity and cleanness. The is still a lot I have to do. Aloyout is never finished. The total distance of the main line is 178'. And if I run a train on the full layout it take approx 3.5 min to complete the loop from start to finish. Since I like full lenght passenger trains so I design my layout around this. All but 3 of the swithes are #8 except for 3 #6 to stub end tracks. Radius is a min of 37". All track is code 83 and weathered. The sky board is from "Backdropwarehouse" and is a photo (real sky and scenery). I still need to work on lighting when taking photos so I can capture the effect of the skyboard. thanks Mike
