With the recent announcement from ConCor about a rerun of their popular AutoRacks, and Alan Curtis Models offering upgraded metal floors, other N scalers have asked about replacing the side panels with etched metal panels. Good news to report from two suppliers, N Scale of Nevada and JnJ Trains from Iowa.

Subject: Con-Cor has and NSN will

Recently Con-Cor announced a (limited) re-run of their AUTORACK railcars - that being the case it's only fitting that - N SCALE of NEVADA or like we are called today NSN-2 - should announce a re-run of the acclaimed etch brass side panel inserts that turn the Con-Cor toy into a model of which you can be proud of.

While not limited to a specific quantity of kits -this re-run will stop running on December 31, 2001, which should allow plenty of time for you to budget funds for purchasing all of the kits you will ever need. Every order - received from now until the close of business December 31 will be shipped in its entirety.

Long ago - when the kit was first released - its list price was $18.00 - plus shipping costs. Its 2001 List Price is $15.00, which is less and the kit has much more stuff then the original.

This version also includes - drum roll please - etched brass doors properly configured for the A and B ends, plus a cast brake ratchet and some other bits that will easily turn your AUTORACKS into what you wanted them to be in the first place - a model as detailed as an ATLAS locomotive.

If you want more than one kit - all the kits you order will be packaged together with one set of USER GUIDES per order, which will have complete COLOR instruction photos.

Orders will begin shipping on December 3, 2001, via USPO Priority Mail. As for payment - you can make use of your personal check with no waiting for it to clear - which is a crappy device to hold your bucks. Or a USPO Money Order. Shipping/Handling is $6.00 per order. Write word AUTORACKS on the lower left corner of your envelope please. Include your e-mail address with your order as well as the address you wish the product to be sent to.

Send your order and make you payment out to:

    NSN-2
    15150 Sheri-K-Bar Lane
    Reno NV 89511.

You can e-mail me with any questions at

    JFC-Jr@worldnet.att.net

use the WORD - AUTORACK as your subject please.

NOTICE: This is a Special Offer - not available in stores or on TV.

    Thank you for your time.

I have a set from JnJ, they are very nice! I would post pictures but I have not put them on yet. The removing of the plastic behind the ConCor panels, if you want the see-thru effect, is no easy task  Don't even attempt it without a Dremel and one of those saw bits!

As much as I would like to I won't be getting either kit for my 'racks. I have 20 now and 10 more coming. I will be stocking up on Alan's conversion kit though :D :D

Catt, I know how that goes. I have 16, and 6 more coming..... That conversion cost will almost require a 2nd mortgage.... Esp. if I get Alan's floors, and JNJ's sides.... What's next a roof conversion kit? There will be no con-cor left to call the 'rack! It'd be a kitbash/scratchbuilt model...

I had an email today asking me to not only supply the frame casting, but a casting for the whole car! Imagine how much that would weigh

That would definately be a head end only car.Plus you would need a helper about every 10th car....

Somebody with JnJ experience answer me this - does their set do one side or both sides?

I like this idea 'cause I've got a shot of an open top and end autorack in MoPac paint that I want to do.

The JnJ set does both sides period. The NSN-2 does both sides, the end doors'the rachet brake( that Con-Cor doesn't even bother to try to do),and proubly a bunch of other little goodies :D
