Does anyone know if the pictures on the Atlas website are pre-production samples of the upcoming GP-7's? The reason I ask is that in the pictures, there appears to be a very large gap in the handrails and body shell. This was a problem with some of the GP-7's and GP-9's that I bought in the last run. It really makes for a very poor and toy like appearance. I was hoping that this would be corrected on this new run. I haven't noticed this problem on any of the other locomotives that Atlas has been releasing. I was pretty excited when I saw the new run announced, but when I looked at the pictures, I decided I may not be buying these at all Am I imagining this problem, or does anyone else see it too?
What "gap" are you referring to? I didn't notice any glaring errors on the Atlas N GP-7 new run photos listed here http://www.atlasrr.com/highlights/ngp7.asp eNjoy Don B

My UP units from the last run have this problem and I did notice this in the photos on Atlas' web site. The GP7/9 have a walkway/handrail piece and a sidesill piece, whereas other Atlas releases have a walkway/sidesill piece and a handrail piece.
So now my question is this- is it worth worrying about so much we don't buy it, or we either live with it & go on? A third choice would be to fill this gap. I have a GP7 from the last run, and it's a far, far cry from the first run. Not 100% perfect, but much better. It'll be interesting to see if Atlas can overcome this little issue in later runs. As for me, I'm looking at another Geep, this time from Caboose Hobbies. Just a hobby.....

The gap between the walkway and handrails. I tried filling it on one of the units I got from the last run, but only had mixed success. I was hoping this would be corrected in the new run, especially since the other models of loco's I've purchased from Atlas since the last GP-7's & 9's have not had any sign of this problem. Oh well, I will probably buy them anyways and try to fill the gap. Anyone have suggestions as to how to do this?
You shouldn't have to fill the gap with anything. Just glue the handrail/walkway assembly onto the sidesill piece with CA.
Sorry for jumpin' in late on this one guys ! I say gap or no gap, I HAVE to have some!! The CB&Q pics look really good. Are they planning on any Santa Fe paint schemes, and how different are the models from the EMD series? Happy Modeling!! John
Personally, I won't lose any sleep- these GP7s look better than the first incarnation. A few in Frisco colors would look nice.....

Maybe we will both get our wish ! All I know is that when I saw the picture of the CB&Q red and gray paint scheme I was immediately transported back to my childhood on the other side of the slope (Boulder area) where I saw them run nearly every day (when I was not in school that is...remember kids STAY in school !). Gotta have some in that paint scheme by golly. It is a good thing that I freelance! Happy Modeling!! John
