A string of auto racks are lined up in the yard awaiting a trip to an unknown destination. Probably filled with Teslas from the nearby logistics yard, this one flashed enough color to earn itself a photo.
#5604 leads a manifest through the yard with a seemingly recent paint job and maybe some other work too. Looking clean and shiny! Ish.
I don't get to see nearly as much pumpkin orange in the yard as I'd like, but today I saw this one lined up with a string of UP locos and had to sneak in closer for a pic.
Not a great photo but yesterday I saw some big power waiting for a new crew as I passed through the yard on my way back from lunch. This was a rock train from Texas Crushed Stone that would soon be headed south to...well, somewhere.
It was a busy lunch hour in UP's Taylor Yard today. When I arrived around 11:15 the Amtrak Texas Eagle was just departing to head north toward Chicago. It usually departs at 10:15 but I've noticed on Fridays it's sometimes behind schedule. I'm thinking Friday must be a busy day for them. Unfortunately I didn't get there quick enough to snap a photo. Almost as soon as Amtrak left I looked down the line to see #7872 leading a rock train into the yard. Rather than passing through to head south like they normally do, they stopped for what I thought was going to be a crew change. They never changed crews though, so I guess they were just waiting on something... While #7872 was sitting there, #5981 came around and was shuffling some cars around in the yard... As I sat there watching this dance occur, I saw more lights coming down the main. It was a second rock train lead by UP #7096. This one continued east with #6418 pushing from the rear... Not long after that, #7872 started to make their move out of the yard. Not sure who sits where, but they tooted their horn at me and either the engineer or conductor opened his window and gave me a big wave as they rolled by... I was getting ready to head back to work when I heard a horn blow from behind me, so I drove around to the other side of the main for a better angle just in time to get this shot of some BNSF power rolling through. I'm guessing they were headed to the nearby Taylor Logistics Yard to pick up autoracks, but perhaps not... It was a good hour of railfanning.
