I read in the latest issue of Railfan that UP is sending its steamers to Strasburg for some wheel work. Anyone know any details? These two don't get out East very often (if ever), and if there'd be a chance to catch these two en route, I'd like to!

I believe they set some driver wheelsets to Strasburg to be turned and tuned. Pretty sure I saw a photo on another site of one of 3985's drivers there. They wouldn't send the locomotives. :teeth:

Jim is correct. Strasburg has all the toys to re-tire and true up a driver. The 844's drivers headed east during its big rebuild. Last time the UP sent a steamer east that far was for a winter steam special, IIRC, as a Clinchfield engine.

That's what I was afraid of. Here I was thinking I might get a chance to see one of these two famous steam giants. Guess not.

This had me wondering- Would the Strasburg track even support a Challenger? :eek:mg:
