I tried to post a reply under the GP60 repaint, but no dice
So, here's a question: Are the UP repaints getting the "lightning-stripe" scheme the new SD70s and DDA40X 6936 have? I've seen UP repaints here in Grand Junction, but I don't know if the lightning stripe is going on the repaints since the SD70s have come out.

Oops, I've been awake too long. I accidently edited the wrong post. Time for bed... [IMG]

From my observations, the UP Paint Scheme has been modified slightly for all units to include the lightning stripe as well as a UP shield with wings. Originally, it was announced that all repainted wide nosed units would receive winged logos but only the new SD70M's would receive the lightning stripe. Well, apparently someone in Omaha liked wings and lightning stripes because many units have received them. As has been noted, standard cab units are now receiving a smaller winged logo and are also receiving the lightning stripe treatment. Also, the wide cab repaints are also receiving both. Here is a list of the types of units I have seen photos of with wings: SD70M, SD60, C44-9W, AC4400, GP60, SD38-2, GP38 and SD9043MAC. In addition, I have seen lightning stripes on all of these types, with the exception of the SD9043MAC. Once again, this is not an educated answer to the question, only a compilation of my observations. I hope this helps you out.

Here are some links to photos of repainted UP units I have found:

    GP60
    SD38-2
    SD60M
    another SD60M
    C44-9W

To add to Kevins observations, Units already in UP paint that get patched with new numbers aren't receiving wings or lighting stripes until later when they get a whole new paintjob.

Thanks for the addition, John. As noted in the original post (that I accessed in error), my brain is fried after chasing trains all day today. I saw such an example today, UP GP60 #1961, which most likely was renumbered from a 5700 series number. It had only received a new number patch and number boards and retained its original straight striped wingless UP paint. Good Catch.

Well, that explains why I'm seeing pics of the repaired 6936, as well as the new AC4400s, with the lightning stripes and wings. I'll have to keep an eye on the UP power a little closely here in GJ.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys! :D

    Kevin, No Problemo :D

Duane, Bring em on :D Perhaps this was a full repaint of an ex SP or something  Anybody got any help here?? I don't keep track of histories. :(

UP 2069 is Ex SP 9770 which was re#'d to UP #5689 in 12/99. The 2069 is a complete repaint. Looked to be quite fresh.
