Well, since we seem to like photos around here, I've got some that I just got back and scanned. Here is the east end of Selkirk, a trash train headed to Jersey and points south. And waiting in the hole to enter the yard was a big surprise. A pair of brand new UP AC44CW-CTE units with wings! They were on a 13 car local (a little overkill, eh?). Next we'll move into Selkirk yard, this is a hump set nearing completion. Here is a train in from Boston, entering the yard. A close up of the last unit, an Alco C424! Here is the train pulling into the receiving yard. And finally, west of the yard, but before Voorheesville, another UP, this time a Cyclops (3-window SD60M). I'm standing in a ditch for a stream. Hope you enjoyed!
Looks like a good day, Thanks for putting up the pictures, I dont see many trains in this corner of the world. Bobby
Does anyone know what is going on between CSX and UP in regards power swapping? The reason I'm asking is that I see as much UP power (especially new Wings) as I see CSX power on CSX east out of New Orleans. I had assumed that this was because of the UP (ex-SP & MP) connection in New Orleans and the convenience of using run-thru power. But now that Corey has posted his great photos, I see that there is a lot of UP power up on the north-eastern CSX lines also ..... ? Hank [ 13 April 2001: Message edited by: Hank Coolidge ]
Thought I would add pictures to underscore my previous post. There must be something going on between CSX and UP .... Illicit perhaps? I took both of these this afternoon, about five minutes apart, both trains are heading west towards the CSX Gentilly Yard in New Orleans, then interchange with the UP, NS, KCS, or the NOPB (New Orleans Public Belt). I'm just learning how to use this camera. When I get a little better, I hope to get some FURX locos for Corey, and other miscellaneous run-thrus for all y'all. Right now I have to listen for horns and run like H..L! The Gentilly Yard Ops Dept won't agreed to fax me their power assignments every day Maybe I can change their minds when they see how good their publicity is on TrainBoard Later, Hank
Hank Great pictures! You've been holding back on us For someone who says they are just learning how to use their camera, I'd say you've done very well. Keep up the good work... and keep practicing with that camera; we'll tell you when to stop Harold
Awesome photos Corey , you the man I was playing golf this afternoon and the course I was playing on had a CSX main-line next to hole number # 7 and a train came barreling by and it had a Conrail unit in the lead , looked like a SD60 .
Thanks Harold .... isn't it wonderful how poorly formatted and framed shots can be recovered with good software? (PhotoDeluxe 4.0 in my case) I'll try to get more (and better ) shots. While I was mowing the lawn (no camera ), I saw a pair of CSX 8-40CW's, followed by D&RGW Tunnel Motor 6873(may have been 6893?) in original orange and black Later, Hank [ 14 April 2001: Message edited by: Hank Coolidge ]

They are still great pictures.... if I ever learn to use all of the features of my digital camera (and software) I might produce something good! Harold [ 14 April 2001: Message edited by: chessie ]

Trouble is ... people like you and me really tick off the Duffers behind us .... we just stand there staring at 90MAC's, 40-2's, Tunnel Motors, GP-30 Slugs, and other neat stuff ... SIGH FORE ,Hank
Hank, regarding UP run-through, I know that there are two trains up here (one is run as-needed, the other is regularly scheduled) commonly see UP power. The Q152 (stacks - as needed) and Q268 (autoracks) are the trains that commonly see that. Whenever Q152 runs, it seems to have solid UP consists with an SD70M on the point (and about 120 double-stacks). The only time UP goes east (south) from here is on a through train. Anything ending in Selkirk, and the power heads back west (as seen in my photos).
CSX and UP do run thru power, in other words, if the train starts in california, and goes to NYC, it keeps the same power. Same with CSX.
Corey, guess I'm late in finding those photos. Great stuff. Looks like Selkirk yard is alive and well, almost as busy as in the great old days of NYC. [ 16 April 2001: Message edited by: fitz ]
