UP train Z-SELC-22 had a very nice set of power as it travelled over Tehachapi Pass on Sunday, 3/24/02. The power consisted of relatively new SD70M #4851 which features the new flared radiators, and was trailed by UP's specially painted Olympic Torch Relay Train SD70M's numbered 2001 and 2002. Even though the weather was lousy (overcast and intermittent rain), it was worth a trip out to document as these units may not wear these colors for too much longer. Here is a photo of the train as it rolled through Sandcut, East of Bakersfield, CA: For a few more photos, visit my website and go to the Recent Photos Gallery. Enjoy...
Actually, a tip was posted on Trainorders early Sunday morning. After reading the tip, I used the UP Public Equipment Trace to keep track of them as they approached Bakersfield. Once they got close, I headed out and got my shots. I was only out of the house for around 2-3 hours total, as I was busy that day with assorted household upkeep and wasn't able to chase the train past Bealville (had to get back home and finish some work started in the morning).
