According to http://www.uprr.com/newsinfo/railroad/2005/0718_satellite.shtml, UP will have near-live satellite tracking of 844 and 3985 when they go out for excursions. A GPS receiver is installed in one of the cars in the train and the data is uploaded on UP's website at http://www.uprr.com/aboutup/excurs/trace.cfm (which currently shows both engines in Cheyenne). The two engines will be running excursions between Denver and Cheyenne this weekend, according to the announcement linked above, so we can all do some "virtual" railfanning. Happy fanning!
