I believe this train was near the City of San Bernardino at Verdemont...about 23yrs ago...memories are fading these days...and I can no longer find my original notes. Enjoy.

Is it been that long ago since I've seen motive power consists like that? Used to see stuff like this rolling thru Topeka, KS back then.

    Thanks for sharing the picture!

A very nice picture and the memories it evokes. That was the year I got married. Cabooses were still on trains and SD40-2's were still new. WP gets merged into the UP system and things start really changing. Buildings get torn down or repainted. Cars start getting scrapped and the economy is in the gutter. F units were making there last stand out west on the BN and WP still had two running.

    Thanks for sharing

Never thought I'd look at SD40-2 engines as I do now- Classic power. Seems only a few days ago, they were commonplace.

Back then, I was getting so sick and tired of the UP, because virtually every train...out west at least...had an SD40-2 on the point...now those locos...are mostly relegated to branch line/local service.

Oh I don't know, on my recent trip, I saw plent of 40-2s on mainline trains.

Of course, most of them were in rent-a-wreck paint, but still.

I have seen just as many ex-UP SD40-2's now owned by CEFX as I have owned by UP! [IMG]
