I live a block from a CSX track in Illinois. I regularly watch both UP and CSX (and some other) trains running through. Many times, there are both UP and CSX engines pulling a load together, often with cars branded from several different railroad companies. Probably an amateur question, and I apologize for not knowing, but... Do the railways often share/combine engines/cars for runs?
This is common all over the country- runthrough power, pool power, it's all agreements between the railroads. This is how I can see Ferromex ES44ACs on BNSF, and all-BNSF power on coal trains running on UP. I've also seen CSX and NS units here in Oklahoma, and I'm a long ways from either railroad.
