I don't know why, but this C44 was parked right beside the Hamlet station on my last visit:

I have never seen ANYTHING on this track in the many years I have been railfanning here.

I really like this view.... entitled "Old and New". The famous station is seen on the left. Speaking of old, look at that trackwork!

They parked it there, because they knew you were coming with your camera, Harold :D

Excellent details for modellers, and great photos to boot!

CSX 7793 is a C40-8W built in 1992. The C44s are in the 9000-9052 series.

that siding is almost as bad as the siding up near my house (the one with the 130 car coal train pulling in to it) nice pictures, harold. I would guess that 7793 experienced an electrical, or mechanial problem and CSX had no place to put it. In a way, I love that track work [IMG]

I don't know.... I doubt it had mechanical failure, since they could have easily gotten it back to the yard, only ~ a mile away. It does puzzle me because I have never seen a loco there before.... and from the looks of that trackwork, they might want to reconsider parking there

Great shots Harold! I really like the "in yer face" shot. It is rather interesting that they chose to park the loco on that track.

Of course, to us railfans, many things that are done that appear to make no sense to us :D

BTW Chessie...it looks like that loco is back in Hamlet as of yesterday. It looks like it came in on U356 (I found out that info on CSX's web site at http://twsnet.csx.com/ec.shipcsxpublic/com.csx.shipcsx.mainpage.CSXMainPage?module=carTrace )
