I was fortunate enough to catch UP SD70M 4932 on the NS today in Greensboro, N.C. Its builders plates indicated a build date of 5/02 and it was painted in the "American Flag" scheme. Harold
I have been seeing a lot of the UP flags in Decatur right now.It is nice to see something other than the drab old packmule of safety on the side of a engine.
Sorry for being so delinquent in posting lately... I have a lot going on! Anyway, here is UP 4932: Harold
That same day I remember seeing the same engine on the Yadkin River bridge On my way to work. I was on I-85 south of Linwood Yard. I wish I could have gone back to get a better look but I was my way to work and already running late. It was so weird to just see a UP engine just pop up like that out of the woods!
Well I couldnt help but here is another GM with the same build date [ 15 June 2002, 03:13: Message edited by: Colonel ]
First off, let me start off with a welcome! to TrainBoard Second, I have to say, I bet you were surprised to see that unit pop out of the woods! I must say, I have not seen ANY trains on the Yadkin River bridge in my past 50 trips Harold
Dan, What times do the most trains run thru Salisbury? I can remember sitting trackside in the afternoons where the scrapyard is in "East" Hamlet, near the bridge, and catching a variety of trains, including mid-train helpers But that was back in the early 90's. The last few times I have been in town, the only thing I have caught was a Sperry Rail Service car! Harold
Paul, Sharp looking car! What is it??? We are supposed to get an Aussie GM car here in the states soon. Harold
Harold, My car is a GM Commodore S which is a 3.8 litre rear wheel drive and lots of power . The car being exported to USA is a 2 door version of this car called a Monaro it has a 5.7 litre engine. I friend of mine bought one last month and it is a beautiful car with power that throws you into your seat
Harold, during the week it seems the best times are 11:00 a.m. to about 4:00 p.m.. Saturdays are very busy with alot of trains. Sundays seem to be very slow, I have sat there all day on a sunday for two trains. Hope this helps Dan
Dan, It's hard for me to make it down there on Saturday..... I'd like to hear more about you & your interests, since you are almost a neighbor. You can either reply to the group or e-mail me directly, as you wish. Harold
I guess it's just a matter of luck or timing. I see trains there quite often, considering I only go by there maybe once every week or two... (only for trips to the NC Transportation Museum and/or to the Little Choo Choo Shop) BTW lemme add my welcome to scuzzyXzero. Bout time ya started posting.
I got a photo of the same Union Pacific SD70M in Reidsville, NC on or about the same date. It was leading a short Auto Rack train. The train before it, #128, also had SD70M's #4436 & 4769. Check out my NS web site: http://www.trainweb.org/nsrw Jake
Thanks!!! I'm from Stoneville, which is about 30 minutes North of Greensboro. The nearest line to my house is the NS Winston-Salem District running from Roanoke to Winston-Salem.
Welcome aboard, Jake! I love to see more of my North Carolina neighbors joining TrainBoard I love your photo.... I have been to that very spot in Reidsville, but saw no trains It looks like your photo has a better lashup than mine: I think that is a repaint SD80MAC behind the UP unit Harold
