The 16th commemorative unit on the UP fleet. https://www.up.com/aboutup/special_trains/commemorative/1943-spirit/index.htm
If you find the UP explanation for this paint scheme, it is a wonderful tribute to our military, without whom we would not have the freedom to post here on Trainboard. I say THANK YOU, Union Pacific.
With a unit number of 1943, I would have hoped for a specific tribute to the Greatest Generation, and perhaps a 48 star flag and some more WWII-specific symbolism. After all, that's when our liberties were in real peril, and the enemy was far more real to people at home than imagined by the politicians. The Greatest Generation richly deserves a specific tribute. It's a shame that, even with a unit number like that, this isn't it.
I like the concept, but I agree with @YoHo. This thing is way too busy. They could have painted it to match the Spirit of UP B17 and it would have been much classier.
I am with most of the others, regardless of the reasons for the paint work, it is terrible and frankly an eyesore.
I agree that our soldiers, veterans and active duty, need to be honored. Without their will to fight for our freedom, some of us wouldn't be here today. As I say to all those I meet, thank you for your service.
