I have several N gauge locomotives which I haven't used in 10 years :tb-sad:(approximately). What maintenance do I need to perform on them (no smirking  )to restore them to good running order?

It's going to depend on the state they were in when last used. Of course, some oxidation will have occurred and you will need to clean metal contacts. There is nothing that needs to be changed out or replaced if it was lubed with high quality light Labelle oil. If it has "white goo" in the gears (famous in that era), you may wish to clean out all the Crisco and switch to something else. Be very careful when poking and prodding, as the main difference over this time period was the resilience of the electrical pick-up system. The old wipers were flimsy and just about impossible to realign if you don't have the original jigs the factory used.

Some older gears will crack between the teeth. The Arnolds were famous for this malady. You can get replacement gearing if this is a problem.
