Has anybody experience with the car sides produced by Union Station Products? http://unionstationproducts.com/index.html The offer a huge selection of car sides and I like the idea of the windows being part of the kit. Any comments on quality, fit, finish? Thanks Dirk
I intend to order some of their kits to fill out my Santa Fe Texas Chief as soon as I get back on my feet financially. Really great selection, and quality looks good. (( am not saying that they are so expensive...but that I am so broke.)
I bought some quite a few years ago so things may be better now. I bought some of the N scale 14-4 Pullmans for my Texas Special. The window openings had to be cleaned up quite a bit as the corners were rough and the corrugation pieces were horrible. The etching of the fluting was very rough and took a great deal of work with steel wool to smooth it out. Then they are so thin that solvent cement melts and distorts them. CA worked better but it was hard to get things lined up before it set up. Laminating the sides to the window sheet was a mess and blending the painted sides to the painted core kit left a lot to be desired. I only built two and never used them. They looked like crap. I went with metal etched sides after that.
