    Due to being a new member of Trainboard, I am not able to post the links to the videos I took of this event to celebrate Union Pacific railroad's 150 years of being in business.

    You can try searching YouTube for "Union Pacific #844" as posted by SailorDon01. There are 2 videos that I posted of this event.

    Oh yea, that backing move was awesome , steady on ! Nice video work , displayed very well on 22" HD monitor! Inevitabley , some one steps into the shot ... but its all good !! Thanks for sharing !

    I don't have permission to post the URL being a new member. I hope you can find the photos.

    The backing move that "paperkite" refered to was at the Lufkin railroad yard. They backed the train into the siding. I noticed that they had the cylinder drain cocks cracked open during the backing up. I guess that was to give better control at slow (crawling) speed. The train was serviced and stayed there overnight, departing the next morning for Livingston, TX.

    Steam engineers normally open the cylinder cocks after the engine has been sitting idle for a while. Water condenses from the steam in the cylinders, and they open the cocks to blow the water out. If they didn't, water doesn't compress like steam does, and they would blow the ends of the cylinder housings out.

    They can blow the cylinder heads off, or even worse, crack a cylinder. Disaster!

    This is a software timed option, which we emplaced to protect our members from exposure to hit & run spammers. Trash who post all kinds of nonsense. Or worse, filth and porn. We are a large enough potential audience for such human wreckage, to be a big target for their bad links and photos. We used to see such idiocy on the board multiple times daily. Behind the scenes, we still screen out numerous attempts every day. I just dumped a try from China, only minutes ago.

    Please be patient. You're in. It's all good. We sure want to see your photos.

    That will be automatically enabled after a certain number of hours. That is in place, as stated above, to stop spammers from posting all kinds of garbage in the first day or two after joining. As soon as the timer on each person expires, all of that is enabled. That gives us time to detect most of it before it happens. :)

    Great photos, thanks. I've never been particularly bitten by the steam bug, but there is something about the ones still running that is captivating.

    The locomotive left Houston today and is heading back to Cheyenne via the old Fort Worth & Denver line to Colorado. They will travel through one of the least known spectacular canyon/passes in the west. Once leaving Des Moines, New Mexico the line heads north through Folsom, NM into the canyon and pops out on the plains in southern Colorado at the town of Branson. From there it heads over to Trinidad, CO. BNSF runs heavy coal traffic on this line so it is well maintained. Sure would have loved to ride a passenger train over it when the Texas Zephyr made it its home.

    Hey Don, enjoyed your videos! It looks like 844 brought out the crowds in Texas. That was pretty neat in Lufkin, where the crew pulled forward just enough so that all the folks could get "rods down" photos. I was surprised that they kept the crossing blocked so long in Livingston. Very nice job on the Trinity River bridge shot. Thanks for sharing these with us.
