Under layout turnout throws.

    Has anyone had any luck using the DPDT switches under the layout through a layer of foam. I built one but I think the wire is too long after going through 2" of foam. The .32 music wire just bends and doesn't throw the turnout. Looks like I will have to go another route. Do not want to go with 20 tortise machines, although I may just drop the money as they are pretty bullet proof.

    I ended up putting the switches at the edge of the layout, and running the wire horizontally through a tube to the turnout.

    you can even bend them down. I used .010" wire which is very flexible.

    Otherwise, there's this method, scanned from MR at some point. I've done this too, with good luck. I bend a single piece of wire though to go from the turnout throw, down through the tube..
