The mail had not run at our house by 6:30PM last night when my son and I left to go bowling with our scout troop. When we returned home about9:30PM, there was a package from George in the mailbox! POW!!!! My UMTRR special car had arrived. Have to tell you all, this is one cool car and looks even better in person. In the long run, it will probably sit on a display shelf and look pretty but it's going to get to log some running time on the layout first. Yeah, I know it's not something that one would see riding the rails of a fairly modern day BNSF line but hey, it looks cool and will be fun! So, a big thank you to George for giving us 25 years of the UMTRR and a cool car to commemorate the milestone!

BNSF could be just moving the car through its system to get to the railroad museum that the car’s owner wants. It would be a special move… I mean after all it’s your railroad and what ever story you come up with. Running an old car on a modern layout seems more logical (at least with the scenario above) than intermodals on a civil war layout. Lol.

Old ice reefers were used for years as storage by companies and private individuals. I even donated to help move a WP reefer that was in a backyard in San Jose so it could be restored...this was just over two years ago:

So, regardless of your time period, you can have a car...just set it off the tracks and say it is a storage shed.

cool project. Was there a chassis and trucks under the car, or was it just the wooden box?

Mine arrived today and is a beauty!

My layout will be temporarily renamed the "Upper Mississippi Transit Railroad" in honor of the occasion.

BNSF FAN, what are those parts on a sprue in your box?

The extra parts are to hold the hatches open or closed. They come with MTL's standard issue refrigerator cars too... they just stand out quite a bit in silver!

OK, I feel dumb now. I thought that's what they were because I know MT cars but I didn't think they were there in the box for mine but they are there.

The only thing missing was the trucks from that reefer. Underframe needs some help, but it was still there.

Please note that we're talking about the Prototype WP refrigerator car! All of the UMTRR refrigerator cars have their trucks :D
