OK, so my new layout also calls for a turn table at one end. Now, I had an Atlas turntable on the HO layout....big, noisy and non-prototypical. It seems that there is a huge price gap though, they are either $20.00 for the Atlas, or $300.00 for something that is prototypically correct. Is there anything decent that is in between, say $50.00 to $100.00?? Thanks and Happy Modeling!! John ------------------ The Santa Fe and Southwestern, Chief of the Southwest!!
Check your WALTHER'S catalog. They make a good kit for a modern turntable. It is a manual turntable, but there is a power unit available. I have one working now and will be installing a second turntable later. ------------------ Let's Go Run Trains MARK
Like I have tried to tell you guys before, and you just wouldn't listen.... Diamond Scale Products makes a very good turntable and pit, in a kit form if you want one with detail. I am well satisfied with the 134 foot one I purchased from them. Address your inquiry to: Neal Wolfe at: newolfe@compuserve.com Mr. Wolfe also has many other kits for both steam and diesel engines in and around the engine repair facilities area. ------------------ Watash
Then there are those of us that suggest you make your own. Not hard and there have been some good articles in MR for those that like to make a model of a prototype. All thats needed is a good 12v dc motor and odds and ends of gears. I use a speed controller and can stop the bridge on a dime and have no difficulty lining up the track. I am currently rebuilding my roundhouse but will use the same mechanism for the turntable that I made about six years ago. ------------------ Robin Maberly and Tayside
Thanks folks!! I will look into the Diamond Scale TT, but I am also very interested in building my own. Can you give me some more specifics?? Happy Modeling!! John ------------------ The Santa Fe and Southwestern, Chief of the Southwest!!
There is an article in the Oct '89 (I think) issue of Model Railroader about scratchbuilding a turntable. It's based on the Santa Fe through truss tables used in several locations across the system. I'm sure there are other articles, but that's the only one I can think of right off hand. Dwight
Thanks Dwight, I'll check it out (been wanting to dig out my back-copies anyway ). Happy Modeling!! John ------------------ The Santa Fe and Southwestern, Chief of the Southwest!!
