I was wondering if there's a big difference in size when using a#5 turnout instead of a #4 for a yard ladder. I've messed with it in Xtrkcad, but Im not getting a good picture in my mind. I like the idea of a larger switch for smoother operation, but don't know if the space useage would offset the advantage as space is also a consideration. Since I'm going to be ordering a fast track jig for the size I pick, it's important to pick the right size. I model in N scale.
The larger the better. If it helps, you can print the switch tie templates from the FastTracks web site, if you know what size your yard space is, and lay the leads out full size. I personally use #8s, but my yard is also 54' long.
