There is an announcement by InterMountain on the Atlas N-Scale Forum that they will be releasing SD-40T and SD-45T and SD-45-2s in 2003! The announcement is buried in the topic "What will be the next locomotive announcement? It is on page 4 and 5. Jerry [ 20 June 2002, 00:04: Message edited by: jgeisert ]
Here's the follow on by Road name that Marty posted: ------------------------------------------------------------ Quote The two Tunnel Motors are pretty easy -- I'm not going to break these up by model number right now since I'm about to head out the door: DRGW SP SSW UP DMIR KCS for some of these, especially SP, there will be more than one version of the paint/lettering of course. Anyone else we can find who owned them!!! The SD45-2 is also pretty simple: Conrail ACL Family Lines ATSF Clinchfield and a couple of others. . . . Martin McGuirk VP - Product Development InterMountain Railway Company ------------------------------------------------------------ I'm just glad I won't need any of these. The 6 Atlas Dash 8-40BW are straining the wallet as it is. Brian
This is quite interesting I'd be interested in knowing the type of mechanism that Intermountain would be using.
Colonel, At best it would be something completely new for Intermountain. Also quite an ambitious project as well. I read a post somewhere long ago by Sir Charles of KATO, (a.k.a. Charlie Vik ) that KATO would be producing the entire SD40 series of locomotives eventually. And so far his prediction is coming true, as the last one in the series is the SD40-2T or 'Tunnel Motor'. Charlie has expressed in yet another post that KATO will be announcing a new locomotive this summer......we can only hope!! To coin an often used Vulcan phrase, for KATO to produce the Tunnel Motor version in N Scale is 'most logical'.....but that's strictly my opinion!! 2slim
last thing i heard was that mr. vlk was no longer with kato, and that was as of last monday ,6/10. i hope i am wrong and i was just misinformed.
I talked to the parts dept. at Kato last week and was told that Charlie is no longer with Kato. I wonder why?
I don't know but we received an e-mail from Kato last week asking us to delete his membership on this site. I responded that we did not normally delete a person's membership unless they request that personally. They responded that he was no longer with Kato and since he signed up with a Kato e-mail address it should be deleted. I did not delete his membership as he can easily come back and change his e-mail address if he likes. Charlie
I sincerely hope it was not because of his involvement in the forum. Kato has held their cards pretty close and tight in the past. I had hoped that his joinig had signalled a shift in Kato's philosophy and was in an effort to communicate more with the customer. Perhaps not. Lets take a look at the big picture here: 1. Overland comes out with SD90MAC/80MAC, FT's, GP60/60M's/60B's, AMD103/P42DC, SD40T-2/45-T2/45-2...... Sooooooo, in plastic we have or will have shortly, SD90MAC/80MAC, FT's, AMD103/P42DC and tunnel motors. Whats left? GP60 series!!!!! It's gotta be right around the cornor, I'm guessing Atlas since they have stuck with small 4 axle units for the last few releases. If the tunnel motors have as many said details as the FT's will, we will be in for a REAL treat!!
