Alkem Scale Models is planning on producing a photo etched conversion kit to make either an SD40T-2 or SD45T-2. The kit will contain all the parts to make an etched brass shell to fit either a KATO SD40-2, or a modified Atlas SD50 frame.

-this is acording to a product release in the Jan/Feb N Scale Mag. No mention of this on Alkem's website though.

Also JnJ has plans for an SD45T-2 posted on their website, due out Febuary 2002...well, well see.

All I need is someone to come out with the right size lower grills,I think I could scratch build the rest, but we'll see how these new kits look!

Anything to enable these machines to be built will be very welcome, but surely it cannot be long before one of the major rtr manufacturers does them. Tunnel motors have been at the top of the "wanted" list for ages now.

I'd be happy to see Tunnel Motors, since everyone else wants or needs them. Maybe I can use some as SD40-2 rebuilds, like UP has [IMG]

I'd be an instant customer for a r-t-r D&RGW tunnel motor in n scale (well, as instant as is possible for American outline enthusiasts in UK which usually means at least several days, more often weeks and sometimes months!)

Key Imports did a single run of DRGW (and SP)
N brass tunnel motors in 1983. These were made by Endo in Japan. Nice detail and good runners. To me the only drawback was that the pilots were attached to the trucks -- probably to let them negotiate tighter curves.

They retailed for about $165 US but now bring
around $300-350 US at auction on eBay.
