Looking for truck suggestions, for the Con Cor autoracks. Just finished my second car, by cutting out the floor, and fitting the Alan Curtis/N Scale Kits metal floor. Even with original trucks being used, the car does sit noticeably lower than stock. A little easier to carve up the underfloor, with the Dremel and cut off disk the second time!! Then hand trimming and filing when stock floor is out. Will be using the MT 1019 couplers. Looking for suggestions on what truck(s) to use. First car using original trucks right now. Am also looking into using 2-56 flathead screws to mount trucks, instead of pins. As described in a recent N Scale/N Scale Railroading magazine article. Just need to find a local source for screws! Do I use the suggested MT 1036 truck? Is there a BLMA truck that might work also? If I were to choose body mounting the couplers, would I still use the same trucks, as used with truck mounted couplers? What is the minimum radius curve needed, with body mounted couplers? Home HCD layout has 16.25" outer main, and a 15" inner main. Also have access to club N Track modules, on occasion. If this helps! Any information much appreciated! Thanks.
Probably BLMA trucks with the 33" wheels if you're body mounting. You should be good with 15" radius on these body mounted, but I don't think you can go any smaller than that.
Appreciate the info. What truck would I need? May line up one coupler, and try body mounting. Test one one anyway. Gotta find a tap next, if I body mount. Messed up right hand working on first car! Pushed pin vice wrong I think. Just another in the line of health issues!! If someone has a BIG stick, or equivalent, whack me upside the head, HARD please!!
I'll look at ordering a set of trucks, next week. Need to get Ski Train trip out of the way first! Gotta see how bad Winter Park activities are gonna kill me!! Again, Appreciate the information. Thanks!
I used Micro Trains 1036 trucks on mine and the 1019 couplers as recommended on the Alan Curtis Kits instructions. Then I used the Fox Valley 33" wheels. I still have 4 or 5 left to convert, taking out that under frame is a PITA. They do look and roll nice when done. Craig
Thanks for the positive comments - that is how we suggest that the conversion is done. The kits are still available - and are stilling selling well! Peter Peter Harris N Scale Kits www.nscalekits.com
To date: 2 cars converted to the N SCale Kits conversion floor. 3 more to do, 10 more needed to purchase! So far: Excuse Achmed and Walter! Talking Bobbleheads from oldest Niece and Sister for Christmas! As seen Left to Right: Stock ConCor ConCOr with N Scale Kits floor, stock trucks Stock Micro Trains. Truck mounted couplers on the CC cars. Need to get MT trucks and metal wheels. Also gotta get Ski Train trip over with first! With the New Caboose supposedly set to open by months end.....Maybe I can find the supplies to finish the remaining cars.
Using what I currently have available! Gotta find a source for the MT trucks. Or hope local Hobby Town can get them for me.

Peter, I am 76 years old with 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other. I have checked your web page, I thought every page, and can not find these conversions. What am I missing? Carl
Carl, Just go to nscalekits.com and click on ( our printable catalog and help sheets are here too now ) Scroll down to flatcars click on ( autorack upgrade for con cor car ) There you will see the price and instructions. Craig
Hope to order the remaining 10 conversions I need in the near future! They are nice, as they add substantial weight, down low, where it really helps!! I just need to paint the 2 cars recently finished.
Thanks Craig The direct link is http://www.nscalekits.co.uk/autorack.html but the best way to get there through the catalog page as you say. The 'help' sheet pdf is at http://www.nscalekits.co.uk/pdf083.html Peter Peter Harris N Scale Kits www.nscalekits.com
