Very Interesting results so far. Nearly 24 hours since I ask this question we have a wide range of responses and yet no follow on posts to go with them. It would be good to hear the PRO's and CON's of TrainStore that we could use to make this service better. :lightbulb: :lightbulb: :lightbulb: :lightbulb:
It's a great idea but because I am on the other side of the BIG POND I fugure that not many sellers want the extra hassle that comes with international post and payments. So I view TrainStore only once and while and have never brought anything.
Sending items overseas from the USA does require a trip to the post office, but it is easy to do. I just try to make the trip coincide with some other errand. Overseas payment does involve PayPal which I do not like. Still, I like the TrainStore forum and I have both bought and sold items there.
Well here is my response I always look when I see a new posting. SAdly, not too many folks are selling On30 or associated O scale stuff but there is always hope!! John
Have had many items on there. Books, RRdiana, N scale, and other. I've pretty much thinned out everything excess for now. Boxcab E50
I've bought and sold there. I like doing buisiness with people I feel I can trust. I'm planning on posting up a whole mess o' N scale later this week. Wish ther results of my postings were better (don't seem to sell much anymore), but I'll take the trust factor over fleabay scams any day.
Great way to sell things. I sell things on ebay also, but my train stuff gets listed here first (free is a very good incentive for me), and it always sells quickly. Watch for my newest listings in the next week or so!
I'm simply not in the market for anything right now, as I'm concentrating on getting the room finished. After I begin construction on the layout, I will probably begin perusing the listings again. But there really isn't anything I NEED, that I can think of, so it will just be for bargains on STUFF (things that are neat, but not needed). Dan
some of the first items that i purchased were bought here. it is always on my list to check every day.the only improvement that i see could be that when something is sold the ads get pulled or edited as such. otherwise i use it often and have had great experiences with all you guys. it shows how much of a family this hobby can be. thanks
I have looked at the train store when I came on board. However the way and what I model (P48 O Scale) is perty much left to specialty shops who cater to Proto 48 to obtaine what I want. I think it is an inportant part of Trainboard and serves the needs of many of my fellow members. "Still Training After All These Years"
it's just a question of money I have made several very good purchases through the TrainStore. But alas I tend to avoid checking it closely for fear I may find something I can not live without. It's not that I don't like it, I just can't afford to look!
I look occasionally but have not seen anything I want to buy. Have not sold anything. Not sure if this amounts to "usage" so I haven't voted. Are the ads updated to reflect items sold? If not an automatic delete after a certain time might be in order. Items could be relisted if the seller so desired. Ben
I quit checking it because 99% of everything that gets listed regularly is N scale, not my scale.:tb-frown:
A lot of good issues here. Most things are N scale. For some reason, it seems to be the most active. Ads are not deleted at this time except by the person who posted it. At first, we were just glad to have anything posted. Perhaps we need to have a cutoff date. I have sold many things at Trainstore and bought a few, but I am not in an acquisition phase of modeling. It is much more casual that the other auction sites and I like that. There have been a few transactions that have been problems, but those are rare and are usually resolved with PMs. I think posting pictures helps to make a sale.
The trainstore link is a little hard to find in the pull-down menus. This may be why so many people haven't heard of it. How about a third logo at the top of the page that acts as a hot link??
I have the following thoughts... -I'm glad Trainboard allows selling, and that for sale postings don't get out of hand. -I have used it with decent success, and free is definitely a motivating factor. -Navigating through the listing process is slow. -It is not worth the effort to list items individually, because the items cannot be deleted, making management and listing even slower. (at least, I haven't found a way to delete my entries) -I agree it is a great place to house the for sale/trade/wanted items. -The "bots" don't seem to give relevant information in the title and teaser text. -Self marketing, by posting in appropriate forums, is necessary. I'm not sure if it is still permitted though. -I think, overall, I wouldn't change much other than some way to delete posts after a certain time. I don't think it is enough of a mission critical feature to worry about.
