Taken in 1983/84, at Cabazon, Ca on the old SP Sunset Route. This is roughly 60 miles east of San Bernardino. [IMG]

Nice shot. I like the way the mountains in the background are greyed out a bit. It gives a greater feeling of distance and emphasizes the impression of power of the locos.

I love that shot, that is what a freight train should look like [IMG]

Was that tumbleweed just blowing across the track, or being pushed along by the train? Good catch either way [IMG]

Thanks guys, the "greying" is probably due to all the smog that blows east from the Southern California basin. If I recall Alan, the tumbleweed was being pushed along the tracks.

Not to be stupid, but did you shoot that in Black & White or convert it?

Harold, I shot that with Tri-X. The old tried and true B&W film. I shot it using a red filter, and used a Canon AE-1, with Vivitar 70-210 telephoto lens.

This is a good example of why Tri-X was the film of choice for so many newspaper photographers. The "A" filter (red) was also an excellent choice for scenic shots, and this is very scenic.
