Caught this one outside Holly Hill, SC. Right near Giant Cement. She was pulling a string of about 40 cement hoppers. That's not rust on the rear end, its the orange glow of the sun setting reflecting off the back of the engine. This engine's paint was so new you could probably have eaten off her hood!
This engine was caught at the same cement plant just sitting on a spur. Was surprised to see a CSX and a N&S engine working the same plant. Perhaps they got different parts of the contract?? One takes full loads out and one takes empties in? I have passed this cement plant for years (usually on Sunday) and almost never see any rail activity other than strings of hoppers sitting there along with some box cars here and there. But that day (it was a Wednesday) they were busy. In the background there was another train pulling cars out (I think it was a switcher but I couldn't see the road name) of the plant behind some trees.
The end of track. Where the old SP swing bridge was in Kemah, Texas. Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk 2
At a baseball game here in Houston. There is a giant locomotive above the outfield wall. Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk 2
The Astro's ball park was built over what used to be Union Station. The head house with the lobby and ticket counters was retained and incorporated into the left field wall. The bulk of the field is over where the platforms were. So the field has railroad heritage. Also the city seal for Houston has a 4-4-0 locomotive in it. The seal was designed in the 1840s before there was even a railroad in Houston. They were looking into the future. Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk 2
Hey, its a rebuilding year in a new league. They had a 4 game winning streak going into tonight's game but I fear they broke it. We had to leave early.
Well, you could be a Mariners fan. What few there are remaining. Oh well. I hear the Marlins are even worse.
