Guess who got to ride the train today!!?? Meeeeee! We picked up some tankers, did some real-life switching, and it was just a blast! More pics in my railimages album -
Yes, in the railimages album - I took more but decided to error on the side of safety by not posting them (you know, base safety and all)
Never been to beele afb, looks almost like the engine we had at davis mothen afb, in tuscon az, I used to see it moving flats with decommisiond aircraft comming or going from/ or to the aircraft grave yard, when DM was a "buff" base used to get our 500 lb pounders in by rail.....it was the only way to keep up with the "pay load" of those big monsters. Now that I think about it I do seem to re-call seeing it pull a few tank cars every once in a great while. but it was very rare to even see the engine out or about. brian
To answer your question..... When I die saint Peter, God will tell forgive this Airman HE spent his time in H_ _ L!. Now for a more straight forward answer, no I got out a long time ago. To much Crap goes on state side, if they would of left me over seas, where we played the game for REAL, I would of stayed in and retired by now. I did enjoy my time in the force, and saw a great many things, (like when steam stilled pulled the line in korea). I'll give you a hint at what I did in the "force", we had a saying that went like this, " with out us the airfore was just another unscedualed airlines". Ive unload rail cars and flats, armored box cars (which uncle sam still has in inventory), even been on a short ride in an armored troop car (again uncle sam still has some of these too), it was funny to watch the train crew flench every time some poor forklift driver dropped a pallet of these on the concreat. I remember I was on a short run from point A to point B, and any time one of these "movement" Happens the rails become property of the us government NOT the rail road they belong to, any way a santi fe driver ran a signal in front of us, by the time we got there, parked on the siding was a freight that had hit a loaded dump truck and the hole santi fe crew where spred face down in the mud and each one of the crew had at least 3 m-16's shoved in the small of there backs, and the us marshals just given that conductor the what for on just who owned that strech of rail that day......Never laughed so hard in my life! have a good one brian
Gee........and in some accidents the crew just have to answer some questions & pee in a bottle. BTW, welcome to Trainboard!!
Well it was the marshalls who put the dump truck on the rails in the first place....all sidings for 10 miles in front of us had a small army of marshalls and dump trucks....just incase some train jockey ran the signal!!! brian
