I need a little historical help for a project, please. Most passenger trains had the same name in both directions, but a few pairs had a different name in each direction. Can someone help me with examples of the latter? Many thanks.
Early 20th century pair of Santa Fe trains between Los Angeles and San Francisco-- "The Saint" going to San Francisco, "The Angel" going to Los Angeles. Mid-20th century Santa Fe train between Houston-Temple-Lubbock- Clovis with connections at Clovis to/from California. The train towards California was called the California Special (not to be confused with California Limited). The train toward Texas was the Texan. Santa Fe had at least one or two other pairs of trains with different names in differen directions. On my East Texas layout, I had staging representing the fictitious city of Lost River (my version of Beaupont). There were a pair of daily freight trains between Lost River and the big city of Santa Vaca. The one to Lost River was known unofficially on the East Texas District as the "Lost" freight and the lone nin the opposite direction was the "Found."
The Santa Fe also had The Chicagoan and the Kansas Cityan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicagoan_(ATSF_train) Regards, Ron McF
