You can not please everyone all the time. I myself have no real need for the train master either. Nevertheless, the more locos that are produced in N scale the better!!!!

I am sure in time all of the modern locos we want will be modeled. I am more upset with the limited runs of locos that are produced as to what models are produced. For those that model the steam and transition period, I am sure they get sick of our belly aching for more modern locos. We have the majority as is. As far as the Chineese being sub standard, those are dangerous words. I think it has more to do with quality control than anything else. And for that matter, look at all the junk we have produced in the US over the years. Does that mean we are also sub standard? Nope, I do not think so.

    My two cents
    Matt

Maybe Atlas did two of the older locomotives because they could paint them in Brunswick Green for the Pennsy. Maybe, just maybe, doing an older locomotive avoids all the *****in and moanin likme we witnessed with the Kato "snoots". First generation diesels were pretty much like early automobiles you had very little, if any, choice or options. Today the newer locomotives are like the old steam engines. All are different. Which may be a reason why we don't see too many steam engines. So while we all may not be enthused about the TrainMaster ( I was hoping for a GG1 myself) it is, as someone else said one more engine done in N scale and that means one more hole in the line filled. By the way if anyone has the Atlas 2000 catalogue check the N scale locomotive section. I believe it says that the RS 11 and the SD 7/9 Classic Releases are "coming soon"

Matt, I agree entirely. Just because the model I would like does not appear, I don't mind others getting their favourites. I'll bet anyone who really wanted a Trainmaster never dreamed they would EVER get one in RTR plastic!! Good luck to them, and as you say, it is one more N scale locomotive that was not there before.

From a purely business viewpoint, I agree that many more sales could be made with a number of alternative prototypes, but with the HATED limited runs, they will sell all of anything they make anyway!!

I think we must learn to be a bit more patient. [IMG]

DITTO! SDP/F/FP45 SD70, SD70MAC, SD75, SD75M, SD75I or...get this...F40PH. Any of those would be fine with me. Like I said, it was Paul's call for this one and that's OK. It's just not going to even pay for itself. Oh well...

Is it just me or have the MR manufactures been making some horrible desigions on what models to make? [IMG]
If someone were to make a SD70MAC or SD75M/I it would probily be the most successful engine they would ever make.

Theres no such thing as having to many coal hoppers or GP40-2 when you model Chessie System

The H12-44 was produced by Minitrix a few years ago and imported under the Model Power brand. It wasn't too great a runner, but it got the job done. Model Power is supposed to be retooling all their engines and putting improved drives in them. (I believe the first one is the FP7 which should hit the market shortly.)

For what it is worth. Atlas, (Paul Graf) says that their market research indicates the trainmaster will be a profitable venture. Paul has hinted that there may even be a second release with different roadnames. Granted, this engine was a outright scarcity in the West and some people would have preferred more modern power. But remember those people that wanted trainmasters waited a long time for them. The SD 70's and their variations will come but hopefully not before the Alco's and the U boats.

As I see it the Trainmaster release just gives me that much more time to save for the locos I will want. It takes all kinds of releases to keep a company such as Atlas healthy, Trainmaster included. A healthy Atlas will be good for us all in the long run. Please be patient.

As far as I can tell from my five seconds of extensive research, the biggest difference is that GE and GM are still building, and Alco folded.
