    I have a lionel 1602 engine.
Here's more info. Initially I was running a lionel 1034 transformer but the plug broke . But while running on the 1034 it reversed fine!. I then went out and purchased a CW-40 Lionel Transformer. Thats where the reverse issue comes back.
The 1034 is a 75 watt transfromer, the CW-40 is 40 watt. Why would it reverse fine under 1 transformer and not under another? WIth the new transformer just goes back a few inches then forward again, over and over, like it's crazy!

As I'm a total Lionel-illiterate (does not exist on this side of the pond), I can only guess. It sounds like a AC/DC issue. I had that phenomenon when I wired the tracks to accidentally to the AC side of the transformer.....

Hi, don't think so, I followed the Lionel manual to the letter...

It’s been a while since you posted and I don’t know you found the problem yet, but I’m trying to understand this, when pull back the throttle all the way to off and then back on again the train does not reverse?
I’m not familiar with that engine and I tried to search but the number does not come up. Anyway I think it the reversing switch on the loco. Maybe the switch on the loco got moved a little.
