    Looking for a bitta help.

I have 2 old Diesel locos with what appears to be rubber rings on the wheels?

They are MRC (I think.. Im at work at the moment, they are at home) Yugoslavia on them.

Looking at the KATO site they advertise Traction tires for the Mikado's.

Anywhere you can get the rings themselves from as mine appear to be perished?

Then I got 2 more locos that run.

    Thanks.

I'm not sure about the traction tires for your diesel, other than that, they usually aren't needed unless it is super light... however, on the mikado's (Kato)
it was a God-send that they came up with them. much needed to pull more than 5-cars! That's right, before I instaled my T-tires, I could only pull 4-6 cars up my grade... now, I can easily haul 15!, and they are so well made (the rubber is inset so they have the same profile as the original, not just thin rubber slid over the old tire) and don't interfear.

Funny thing is, that I was pleased to get rid of my Swiss and Belgian HO models, and change to US N scale, to get away from traction tyres!! I didn't realise that any were ever used on US stuff, until Matt acquired an N scale RS11, which has them on two wheels (one per truck). He is going to replace them with new wheelsets without the traction tyres.

I had nothing but trouble with traction tyres, as they quite often were not concentric, and caused the locomotives to wobble. Most had quite enough weight and did not really need them, so I replaced them with new wheelsets w/o tyres. When they got well used, they could stretch and come out of the groove in the wheel, and have to be replaced, so I am pleased to be rid of them. Although I can appreciate the need for them on some lighter steam models, maybe.

I would say the same as Alan. Most of my expierence with them is in HO scale, but still the same problem exists. The thing that really makes me mad about them is the fact that is you have a small loco (SW12 for example) and there is a traction tire on 2 of the axles, you only have 50% of the orignal pick up. And then, if it comes to a dirty spot-it will just plain stop moving! There isn't enough pick up! But, on something like the Mikado I can see the logic! [IMG]

    Happy Railroading!!

Yep... they wobble alright, but I thought that could be the rubber gone bad over the yrs...

not sure what model this thing is...
