Hi- There is a steel mill East of Chicago, near the Amtrak line from Detroit. They had a large number of TR units (calf and cow, some double calf) and even 'remote controlled' switchers. I was wondering if anyone had any info on them. Web sites, the steel company name, etc. I'd like to find more info on them, I was through there once a few years back. Anything will be helpful, pics would be great. The only ones I have are buried, and not too keen through the Amfleet windows. Thanx, Paul in MI
Paul, there are a number of steel mills in the East Chicago-Gary, IN, area along the lakefront. I can recall USSteel, Bethlehem, and Inland from my days with the Chicago & Indiana. Can't remember over whose line the Chicago-Detroit trains operated. Of course, USX owns USSteel and used to own the EJ&E. I do not recall seeing any cow and calf units, though. Hopefully, someone on Trainboard knows of a good Chicago area website with plenty of short line and industrial photos.
The Indiana Harbor Belt uses TR units (iron red), and so does the Belt Railway of Chicago (bluish locos) as far as I know. Their logo is a circle w/ a belt buckle at the bottom. Hope that helped you. Dave

The locos you are probably refering to are from I want to say USsteel. I thought they are were being taken to be scrapped as I saw them heading west out of the Southside of Chicago to NRE. If they are still there, I'd like to know thanks!
