This last weekend, the city of Grapevine, Texas had a weekend festival, which included the dedication of the newly renovated Tower 16. This tower, which was at the T&P/SP diamond in Sherman for many years, was relocated to Grapevine back in 2002 or so when the tower was closed and the crossing diamond taken out by BNSF. Tower 16 now sits next to the Cotton Belt line between Dallas & Ft. Worth, and is part of a complex which includes a rebuilt depot. Besides Tower 17 down in Rosenberg and Tower 19 in Dallas, it's good to see these relics of old-time railroading being preserved. Now, I wonder if they can do the same for Tower 55 in Ft. Worth.......
Up here in the North West, not a single tower has been preserved. I'm not certain if any even still stand. None comes into mind from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana. The only item I'm aware of, that escaped the garbage dump, are the levers from Black River. Which was a UP tower between Tukwila and Seattle, WA. Those are in the RR museum at Snoqualmie, WA. Bummer.
